Like Mother Like Daughter. . .Sometimes

Family #1

My daughter is in an Intermediate Photography class at her high school (and is also a T.A. for another photo class). She really seems to enjoy it and is very talented--she's much more creative than I am. She may even be interested in pursuing a career in the medium! We aren't much alike in many ways but in this area at least we share a common interest. :)

The weekend before last I took her to downtown Denver so she could complete a photo assignment. I was shooting her as she was shooting photos for her class. (I know, a bit much, isn't it?) I took this shot in the late afternoon light--and she made it better with some soft focus vignetting. I told you she was way more creative than I am! The shirt she's wearing is mine, by the way. :)

Aw. This is really sweet! I always love pictures of people taking pictures! The vignette is really a nice touch too.

Great to read something from you! :o) Best wishes to your daughter. :o)

A picture of someone taking a picture. That must be art. ;) She's very beautiful ... and even borrowing your clothes. You must be returning to the realm of "cool". :)

Thanks Penny! I'm still way behind but I'm getting burned out at this point so I thought I'd come up for air. I need to take more breaks. :)

I have (or had) a nice collection of women with cameras. I'll have to start anew with that but I can add this one to the collection.

I know Cherie! I couldn't believe she wanted it. She's borrowed a couple of other things from me, too--stuff she wouldn't have been caught dead in a couple of years ago. Still, I'm far from cool. LOL! I don't know about the photo being "art." I think it was more not having anything else to do while she was working on her assignment.

Oh, and the camera she's using is mine, too. :)

Um, I should rephrase that above statement. I have a nice collection of photos of women with cameras.

I love to photograph photographers. I find them very interesting.

Lisa (Mountain Photog) said...

Hi Bobbie! As a photographer, it's always interesting to see how someone else will approach a subject. I learn a lot from observing my daughter's treatment of both subject and photos--things I would never think of. Did I mention she's a lot more creative than I am?? :)

Breaks are important, my friend! :o) Be good to yourself and make sure you rest and take care. If that means we hear from you less often, so be it. Just know that your absence is noticed! ;o)

LOL@the collection of women. I knew what you meant. hehe

Thanks Penny! It's nice to have understanding friends. :) I'm looking forward to getting all caught up. Perhaps when I'm 80. And I didn't want you to think I had a collection of women here in the house--though my husband would probably like that. LOL!

I really need to stop thinking of her as a little girl, in my mind's eye that's what she is, well - was
The light on her hair is beautiful
I love the shirt, see how cool you are :)

It's so great that you two can share photography.

Enjoy!!

Lisa (Mountain Photog) said...

She's definitely not a little girl anymore Dianne. She's all grown up. It is nice we have something to share, especially at this age. Actually, she's beginning to have similar tastes to ours in a lot of things. She really likes Reggae (and lots of other good music)! It's great not to have to listen to Hip Hop anymore. LOL! And yes, her hair is beautiful this week. ;)

That does indeed make a cool shot. I'm far less inclined to get down on the ground for a shot too often. It has to be a really good reason in order to risk not getting up again. ;) So are the two different socks real, or Photoshopped. ;)

I think it's a wonderful shot and I wish I had your daughter's flexibility when it comes to picture-taking but my stiff back rarely lets me get into any sort of angle to take a picture. Otherwise someone would have a picture of me laying on the ground and unable to get up much like a turtle stuck on its back with its legs kicking trying to roll over!

It's so nice that you and your daughter share photography as a common interest - as well as shirts! But how come she doesn't have any shoes on??

Lisa (Mountain Photog) said...

I know what you mean about trying to remain upright when taking photos Hilary and Linda (love the comparison to the turtle!). I will get on the ground to get a good shot if conditions permit (nice soft moss or something) but I'm not as flexible as I used to be, that's for sure.

And yes Hilary, the two different socks are indeed real (she rarely wears matching socks)-- and she's not wearing shoes Linda because she was taking pictures of her shoes! I haven't seen the contact sheet or the prints yet so I don't know how that particular shot turned out.

Hi there..this is great! I like how you added "she's wearing your shirt (lol)..I think my boys are better than me too! I also like the image of you shooting her. How nice this is!

Thanks Regina! I guess our kids should be better than we are--isn't that the way it's supposed to work? :)

LOL... husbands are funny that way.

Understanding is easy when I'm in the same boat as you! LOL. I get so far behind in some of my fun stuff (blogging) because I'm so immersed in other fun stuff (photography.) Kind of a catch 22. ;o)

Oh and I do get to the office most days too... I try my hardest to 'forget' but the work never ends!!!

Yes, they are Penny, uh, Krista. Though you will forever be "Penny" to me. :)

I know you've posted more on your blog but I need a good chunk of uninterrupted time to read your posts, which I have NOT had ANY of since last Thursday . Soon, soon. . . I hope.

Unknown said...

Tee hee! Either way is fine with me... Krista is my real name - I'm not too sure why I went with a pen name to be honest. I thought I might like to hide a bit and be anonymous... but now everybody I wanted to hide from has found me anyway. LOL!

I know what you mean about uninterrupted time. It is a precious commodity around here, too!

Greetings, Doro! And thank you! You have some great photos on your blog--love the kid and the kitty! So cute! I can't place the language, though. . .

You can run, but you cannot hide Krista, especially on the Internet. LOL!

Hi Lisa! I hope everything is going well. I know you're a busy lady. I just wanted to stop in and let you know I was thinking of you and hoping everything is ok. See you later! :o)

Lisa (Mountain Photog) said...

Thanks for checking in on me Krista! I know, I haven't been around lately. I just keep getting further behind on, well, everything.

I spent a week skiing with friends at the beginning of the month, twisted my knee getting off a lift and caught a bad cold. The cold is gone but the knee still hurts. I've been wanting to post a pic or two from the ski trip--and catch up with my blog friends--but I just haven't gotten around to it. As I like to say, "Life is just so daily." LOL!

How are things with you?? I haven't checked your blog lately so I'm totally out of touch but I've been thinking about you, too. . .

Unknown said...

Hey!

Good to hear from you! I wasn't meaning to nag you about being "behind"... lol... just checking to see if everything is OK.

I'm sorry to hear your hurt your knee! That SUCKS! It's really icy here and I am afraid of slip/falling so I always walk like a penguin. lol

Things with me are good. Not much is new because I have been working all the time. I hope to be finished the current OT project this week though so I can go back to working 8.5 hour shifts, it will feel like working half days! :o)

Take care of that knee... I sure hope you feel better soon!

Lisa (Mountain Photog) said...

Hi Krista! Nag away! Sometimes that's the only way I can get motivated. LOL!

I know how tough it is to be working so many hours. For a while I was working 12-14 hour days. But I'm old so I can't keep that up for very long. :)

I'm starting to feel like I can get my head together enough to actually post something on the blog--though they are talking about calling another snow day tomorrow so I probably won't get much done. Oh, well.

Unknown said...

haha Nagnagnagnag... that's what I do at work so I don't want to do it in blogville. :o)

I'll just wait patiently for a new *sigh* post from *sigh* Lisa. LOL Passive aggression at its finest right there. :oP

I am almost done the long days. I have 2 more (today and tomorrow) and then I am FREE for a 3 day long weekend and then next weekend is a 4 day weekend because it's Easter. I have EARNED some time off! I am thinking of taking another vacation but to be honest, I don't know if I have the energy!

Hope you have fun with the snow day! Talk to you soon...
Krista

Lisa (Mountain Photog) said...

Thanks, Krista! Can you believe, it's still snowing! Yes, I'm sure you can, living where you do. :)

I finally made a post--though I didn't use my own photos, since I've never been to space. lol! Does that still count?

Hope you're enjoying your long and, hopefully restful, weekend!
